I don't thnk that even the smallest stars could exhaust their hydrogen within 6000 years and these just kind wimp out (so to speak) to a white dwarf.

the universe is not 6000 yrs old, but yes, its possible for a black hole to form in that time frame, but for one to form a star must collapse, and for that to happen, it must burn itself out, which takes billions of years in a star big enough to form a black hole.
