I think it depends on how well you two think it would last! I think it is very hard to have a great true friendship after breaking up with one another so the question i think you should ask yourself is do you think it will work? If not I hope you treasure your friendship enough to know that this guy is better as a friend and do whats better for yourself in the long run! If so then i say life is all about risk and if you dont make mistakes sometimes you wont learn from them so go for it! If you and this guy are friends talk to him like you would normally. I dont think you should be any shyer or any less outgoing!

Nobody can stop two people from dating, especially not brothers and sisters. What you need to think about is if it is worth ruining the friendship over. Because, when the relationship goes sour, going back to being friends will be nearly impossible.
