This is a deliberately ambiguous TV quiz question. I've never yet been able to stay awake long enough to see a correct answer to one of these so I don't know how the logic (if there is any) works. You don't know enough about the grapes, bunches, bags, Bill, Bob or even what the ultimate question refers to. Is it the total number of grapes, Bill's grapes, Bob and Bill's grapes, grapes in the question, some other non-obvious form of "grape"? There is no correct answer because the question is meaningless. They will have used some sort of dubious logic to provide an agreed answer in the envelope held by the guy with the fake tan, crazy hair and odd facial expressions but that is only "correct" in that it is the one that will win you the money (if you can get through on their 75p phone calls). Bob is not Bill-you have not specified how grapes are calculated for Bill or Bob unless one makes the assumption that both of them are allotted the grapes in the same manner. Therefore it is impossible to determine how many grapes they bought unless one makes the assumption that the grapes are alloted to both in the same manner. By the way, the question should of "How many grapes?" is incomplete. Should it have been "How many Grapes did Bill buy?" or "How many Grapes did Bob buy?" or "How many did they buy together? or "How many grapes were available for them to purchase?"?
Math is important-but logic trumps word problems every time!
