Best Sniper Rifle is objective, depends on the mission parameters, a .50 cal Barrett is great for desert warfare but an M21 is better for urban environment, for best all around a bolt action sythentic stock with a variable power scope and bipod like the M24A2/M40A3 is best, .308 allows for plentiful ammunition but to a sniper this is not exactly a neccesity, so a Custom rifle with a McMillan stock chambered in .300 Winchester Magnum or .338 Lapua would be my choice, the action of which is also debatable, a true Mauser action is one of my preferance although a Remington 700 is fine too.
Best Assualt Rifle would be a bull-pup configuration in my opinion due to its inherent combination of accuracy and manuverablility FAMAS is proven but FN 2000 is a fine rifle. AUG is good but ugly and seems fragile. A-91 is nice however and AK variants take the cake when it comes to reliability.
For covential lay-outs H&K G3, FN FAL, M14, AK-47, and SIG 552
would be my top choices, in that order.
7.62 vs 5.56 is a debate which will never be settled, much like 9mm vs .45, both have their advantages and disadvantages, personally I would rather have increased weight and less ammo capacity and a round with definitive one shot stop capability than twice as many rounds which may require 3 hits before putting down the target, but really it is shooter proficiency in the end as direct head/heart shots never lie. Hopefully 6.8 will become the new standard and offer a compromise of compromises.
Pistol is a 1911 .45 ACP, I would Prefer a Wilson Combat with 11 round capacity, but Kimber makes the best bang for your buck. In certain circumstances others would win such as .50AE Desert Eagle or .500 S&W revolver, High Standard silenced .22, FN Five-seveN, (body-armor piercing capability and over 100 yard range) or Glock especially model 18.
.44 Magnum is really the most powerful round you would ever need and can be had in almost any style weapon, Short/Long barrel, Single/Double action Wheel/Auto Gun.
Best Light/Medium Machine Gun goes to FN MAG (M240) .308, relative light weight and more reliable than the gunner firing it. M248 Para for CQB though.
Heavy Machine Gun .50 BMG M2 especially the newer improved variants such as M2E50 or GUA-21
Sub-Machine gun goes to H&K MP5 and it wide variety of variants hands down. The H&K USP will most likely soon surpass it as it's evolution progresses, especially considering its ability of .45 ACP chambering.
Best Shotgun would be a 12 guage Pump for all around use, semi-auto's can be notoriously finicky, Remington 870 would be the popular choice, I like my 3 1/2" Mossberg 835, and Ithaca used to make fine shotguns.
AA12 may be best once it's development is done, dead reliable, accurate and Armor Piercing High Explosive rounds are hard to argue with at 360 rounds/minute.
For anything other than combat or large game an over/under 12 guage would be my personal choice, simple, reliable, accurate, beautiful, and well balanced.

First what are you categories?
Assult rifle - I'd go with the Ak - 47 because it is quite durible. you can put water or sand in it and still be able to shoot it. But it lacks accuracy so its only good as an assult rifle.
A sniper rifle I'd go with a bolt action Remington 700 chambred in a .308
Best shotgun would be a Remington 870 Police Magnum as police forces and hunters use the remington 870 and its a durible shotgun.
Sidearm I'd say a Glock chambred in the .40 as it is used by many enforcement agencies.
Revlvor the old six shooter.

Overall these are my favorites for S&D. assault M16 this gun is dead accurate and has decent power so you shouldn't have much problem at any range with it. You can effectively use any attachment with this really smg ak74u or mp5 I prefer the ak74u but many people prefer the mp5. Just try both of em out and see which one you prefer. the ak74u is more powerful with less recoil and the mp5 has less power and less recoil. Use the red dot or silencer lmg rpd this lmg has the best combination of power and rate of fire. The saw fires fast but is weak and the M60 is powerful but slow. I'd use either the grip or red dot sniper M40A3 Imo the best sniper in the game. It doesn't have as much power as the R700 or 50cal but is much more accurate. Normally I dont recommend sniping on headquarters but it works pretty well in certain situations

I like my Ruger Model 77 stainless steel with a synthetic stock chambered in .223 for killing at long range, well at least up to 350 yards, and things deer size or smaller, and my Ruger 77 in 300 Winchester Magnum for longer range and bigger things.
I usually have a Glock model 20 in my pocket in case something bad happens. The 10mm semi-auto has more than enough power and 15 rounds give you plenty of chances if you miss the first few times.
Don't play with shotguns...
