They may already suspect it. Just be honest with them. Ask your parents to make an appointment for you with your doctor and take it from there. I don't know your parents, but they should not punish you. You need professional help from a variety of people. I mean, would your parents punish you if you were diabetic? Or had heart problems? I hope not.

If you are very thin, your parents may think you have a drug problem, suspect you are anorexic, or worse. Frankly, it could be a relief to them if you discuss it. They were probably afraid to confront the truth themselves. Just because we're parents doesn't mean we're perfect! ;)

Try talking to them one at a time. Start with the parent your feel less afraid with. Then ask that parent to go with you to the other parent. For example, if you feel closer to your mom, talk to her first, then ask her to help you tell your dad. Or vice versa. It's
fine to talk to your dad first too, if you're more comfortable.

If you are truly afraid of your parents' reaction, enlist the help of an older sibling, cousin, aunt, etc.

My daughter brought home a friend once and I realized she was anorexic within the first 5 minutes and (being the nosey person I am) proceeded to discuss it with her. How can your parents not already know? There are SO many symptoms and clues.

Yes, you should tell them. Here's why. Anorexia is an illness. And there are many root causes. You will not be able to get the help you need by yourself. And yes, you need help. You need to see a doctor. Reach out. Even if they are angry, it will only be because they are concerned for you and then that will fade.

If some of the root problems are because of your parents, then at least go see the school councilor and get some advice from them.

Depends on how your parents usually are. If you're really scared of your anorexia, don't try to cover up your fear when and if you tell your parents. Be completely honest. Ask them if you can get help for it so that it won't take over your life. Punishment is bad, but the long-term consequences of anorexia are much much worse. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_nervosa#Presentation)

Regardless, you should tell them anyway before you get seriously hurt or ruin your future. Don't turn away help (the real kind) when it is offered and mostly likely help you recover.

You are their child after all. If they get mad, fine. They won't get mad enough to avoid you because that would be completely senseless. And from there, you'll be able to get help from a therapist or a counselor.

doctors typically cannot tell your parents, because of confidentiality. However if they believe you will harm yourself, they are then allowed to inform your parents. I have struggled with anorexia for the last 3 years of my life, and it is hell. you need help if you are currently anorexic. you may not be dying or anything right now, but the health complications you will face in the future are huge! i am sure you're a beautiful person & this is a horrible disease that will eventually ruin all aspects of your life.

u will not be punished because it is a mental thing that u cant control. i suggest giving thema note so u dont have to look at them when u tell them, because u might chicken out. ur parents will not be mad, theyll just be worried. go to www.nationaleatingdisorders.com or type in anorexia on google to get more info. im proud that u have realized that u have anorexia, which is a serious disease, many girls do not realize that they have anorexia. i hope that you can get the help u need. goodluck

It is much easier than telling them that you are gay or pregnant.

If they get mad and punish you, I'd think about getting new parents.

Also anorexia is not always caused by vanity. It could be a severe hormonal imbalance that causes you to always look bloated no matter how little you weigh. That is why it is good to go see a doctor.

Just sit them down and tell them. They wont get mad at you at all. If anything they will be proud of you to have the courage to get up and tell them that you have a problem. You will not be punished, but they will try to get you help. Good luck!!!

Your parents probably already know there is something going on with you. They may think that it is something worse. Let them be there for you. Maybe tell the one that you have a better relationship with first and maybe they can help you talk to the other. Good luck!!

OMG! Hopefully you have understanding parents. There is no reason for them to get mad. How come you became anorexic? Was it peer pressure? Definitly tell your parents, you need help and fast. Good Luck! Let me know how it goes.
