I have used the same lady to do my taxes the last 2 years and I went to go get them done today and she is no longer there. Last year I did not get any of my papers back so I have nothing to look on, to find this out. I know that whn you file your taxes there is a place for them to sign or if they e-file they must have some sort of code or number or something. Anyways, I would really like her to do my taxes as well as she has my papers from the last 2 years that I would like to get. If anyone knows how I could find anything out about my tax lady I would very much appreciate it.

If you need a copy of your return please look at this link before you do anything. You do not need a copy of your return. A transcript will do just as well, and it is free.

Do not bother searching for your tax lady. If she did not give you a copy of your return, what else did she fail to do? Find someone who is likely to be around for a bit - a CPA or Enrolled Agent who is open all year round is likely to be safe (although there can be no guarantees).

Good luck with this.

Whomever did your taxes the last 2 years was required to give you a copy of your tax return, no matter how it was filed. If you can't find these returns you can get a copy from IRS. They charge per page, so I would go to their website and order what you think you might need. If you didn't file any stock dividends or sales, didn't itemize your deductions, you really do not need any returns from the past. You just need your w-2's. Social security # and an ID.

When clients need information from prior returns to prepare a current year return, we have tools to retrieve much, but not all, of the information. As an Enrolled Agent, I can get access to your IRS records directly (but only with your written authorization) in order to prepare your 2006 return.

Sometimes tax ladies DO go away. They pass on or just move on. You should ALWAYS get a copy of your tax return and keep it for at least 7 years.
