Words and actions. You have to have a combination of both. Let him know he can trust you by showing him you trust him, be warm and open and let him know that you are willing to go as slowly as he needs to make things work. But you should also beware. coming from experience people who are afraid of being hurt usually end up letting their guard down, the insecurity is still there and sometimes it comes through very strong. I've been with my boyfriend for a while now after having horrible relationship after relationship. I found a decent guy but I get very angry at myself for trying to runaway when I feel the slightest bit insecure. hold on tight let him know you are going to be here for a while and even if it's just a friend's thing you want him to know you care.

Well first you have to know if he's scared because of his past, uncertainty with certain habits you have, or if he's never been in a real relationship etc.
All you can do is be loving all the time, regardless of when he's upset or ridiculously happy. It will show that you're 100% there 100% of the time.
You can't change how he feels if he's going to be stubborn either

omg!!i went through this EXACT thing about 2 weeks ago! well, what you have to do is make him feel special!! tell him how much he means to you, and trust me, actions speak louder than words! leave sweet little messages on his car, or in his jacket pocket. take HIM out!! let him know that you are going to prove to him that you can be a great girlfriend, and that ya'll will have the relationship that both of ya'll want to have with eachother!! he might make you wait, but dont give up the fight, it just shows him how much you really do care for him. once you "win" him, you'll appreciate him soo much more because you had to fight for him!

loving someone is easy but if that person has been hurt before(like me) its hard to get away from that its always in the back of your mind even if you find someone that treats you better and takes care of you. just give him time and your support maybe you will win over in the future good luck

From what you're saying, I'm assuming that he's been hurt in previous relationships, and does not feel secure. Show him that you love him by caring for him, supporting him, and respecting him. He will be able to feel secure, and know that you are for real.
