i have plans of going to nj on april 4 but so far the prices have gone up and only 1 nonstop flight that was 246 and now 354$...when should i consider buyin the ticket before overbookin

as soon as you know about your trip you should make the reservation. A good travel agent would notify you prior to a rate increase. Prices tend to only go up as the date gets closer.

All airlines reservations not ticketed expire at midnight Pacific Time. The computers will spend a couple of hours updating and reseting fares. Then sometime about 2 a.m. Pacific Time these fares that may have been gone are back online for sale.
Use http://www.sidestep.com . Take the lowest fare from there and go to the airlines website and compare the prices.
Remember not only the time of day you fly but the time of day you buy a ticket makes a big deal.
Once you know the flight you want go to http://www.seatguru.com and find a good seat so when booking you can take advantage of the good seats.

Buy it now!!! I booked a trip with Delta to Central America for July-August (2007) on November 30th last year! Prices since then have raised by over $50!!!
