Hi, and welcome to one of the most satisfying art forms. I have tattoo'ed grapefruits, oranges lemons banana's and pigskin. Just ask for it from your local butcher and get him to leave the fat on. the downside to fruit is you have to freeze it if you want to keep it, pigskin can be dried in the sun.
Good luck and Have fun.

I know how expensive that fake skin is and it really is not good for color. Grapefruits are good, they also get you used to working on surfaces that are not flat, lets face it body's are not flat. Grapefruits are the closest to the feel of skin when it comes to fruit, but you can only do small stuff.

Pig skin is supposed to be like tattooing human skin also, but I don't know where to get it. I was just told the other day that honeydews work well also, I have not tried it but it would give you more area to work than a grapefruit.

Good luck

You can get a pork butt at the grocery for about 10 bucks. It has a large area for tattooing, and it's good practice. Using a honeydew like the previous answerer is good too,but not as good as real skin.
