It's kind of along the lines of "it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have it."
But I like it a lot.

This quote assumes a judgmental punishing God. A sad little idea of God. It shows a complete lack of faith in Gods love for us.
The real God is unconditionally loving so it doesn't really matter which way you do it, because you still get welcomed with open arms.
It might actually be more fun to live as if there is no God and get the beautiful surprise at the end.
Love and blessings Don

There are several holes in it. It's called Pascal's Wager.
For example - Which god of the thousands of gods there are to believe in?
Or -
Wouldn't an omnipotent and omniscient being know that your intentions were less than noble - that you are believing only to escape punishment?
Also, many of us who don't believe could not just flip a switch and start to believe for no other reason than "what if". Wouldn't an omnipotent god know we were pretending, and wouldn't it be a shame to live life lying to yourself?

I would ask this person, "Why does belief in God change the way you would live your life"? Whether or not I believe in God would not change the way I live my life, it would only change the reasons why I do what I do, not what I do.

What a chicken **** way to live. To believe in god, don't you have to actually believe there is a god? If it doesn't make sense to you , and doesn't sit right, then can you really live your life around a principal you don't believe in , just in case?

Belief in God for the sole reason of fearing what might happen when dead is believing for all the wrong reasons. Even Christian theologians have stated this. I would doubt, even if Christianity is true, that this reason for believing would get you into heaven.

It's a beautiful quote. I agree with the author of it. If I didn't belive then I saw God in death I would be realy upset. I wish you knew who wrote it.
