If you collected insurance, or they had to pay out, they now own it. If it was a write-off it can;t be licenced again. If it can be fixed you need to buy it back from the wreckers.

To get an auto retitled and rodeable - you will have to get the car and the title back into your name, schedule a DOT inspection with an approved inspector. Call your State Patrol office to set it up or they will tell you where to do this. Once you have the papework done and the auto inspected and pay your fee - yes there is a fee usually - then you will be given documents necesssary to get it retitled. The title will be cleared - however there will be a statement that says it was a previously salvaged title.

In most states once a salvage title has been issued, it can't be changed. In some states a salvage title means it's a parts only car, and can never be driven again. In other states it can be repaired and registered, but only after an expensive inspection and certification of road worthiness. Check the law in your state. But even if you can drive it, you can't get the salvage off the title.

Simple... You need to repurchase the vehicle back from your insurance company. They now own the vehicle so they have the title and in order to gain ownership of that vehicle again... you need to purchase it.

You might be able to put it back on the road, but the title will always say "SALVAGE" across the top. That can't be removed.
