I just but a Sylvania 42" Flat Panel Plasma HDTV. I have an HD cable box and it's connected with an HDMI cable, which is supposed to give the best quality picture. For the non-HD channels we are connected w/ S-Video because it looks better than the HDMI or component cables. I also kinda feel like the component cables looked better for the HD channels, so why all the hype about HDMI cables. Am I doing sometihing wrong, what does everyone find to give the best picture for cable/HD/DVD/etc

Are the non-HD channels analog channels? If so, that is why the s-video is better. Analog does not benefit from the wider bandwidth and higher resolution of the HD connections, and can look worse as it reveals the defects and noise in the picture. You may not see much difference between HDMI and component for HD programs on your TV. I suspect your plasma is 1024x768 or similar, and the difference between HDMI and component will show up better on a 1920x1080 screen.

The truth is the DLP tvs are the best picture quality , sorry to say the DLP 1080P tv quality is amazing. I think its the fact that its a flat panel plasma that has the most to do with it.
