My Daddy used to say," look them in the eye and tell the truth" and "always be true to yourself" my momma said, " knowledge is power and education is one thing no one can ever take from you. dont just sit back and wonder, get up and figure it out."
I try to pass this info on to my children now. When you learn that the advice you have been given in your life is good advice and how to use that advice you are usually out of the situation where you need the advice. Listening to it and applying at the time you need it is the hardest thing of all. I usually start off an advice comment to my kids with this disclaimer, you wont understand this for 10 yrs from now, so file it away in your brain cause one day you will get it...... then I go into the advice of the moment and see what happens.

When I was growing up in the '60s the Number one thing that was drummed into our heads in every aspect from parents to church to school to Girl Scouts to Leave it to Beaver and Andy Griffith was ~ The Golden Rule. I think the world would be a much better place if "Do Unto Others As We Would Have Them Do Unto Us" was returned to our psyche. It affects every decision I make and I have passed that sentiment on to my children.

yea - a Chinese saying "one child cannot take care of their parent but a parent can always take care of the children (no matter how many he/she has". Meaning: learn NEVER to expect ANYTHING from your children (later in your life), children generally will shirk their responsibility or point fingers at their sibblings should the need ever arise

My mom had lots of sage advice....
You've got to take the bad with the good.
Worrying about things won't change the outcome.
No sense stressing about things you can't change.
