Dogs discipline dogs. I think effective training has to be immediate, right now and anything that shows displeasure is sufficient. That is a severe spanking does not teach better or faster. Only develops a bad, shy scared dog. Smack a puppy once with a newspaper and say no at the same time and next time you only have to say no. They just need to get what no means. They naturally want you to like them and to stay out of trouble. The game is communicating that to them. We are the smart ones so we are responsible for figuring out how to get something across. A lonely dog is always a problem.
Imagine being removed from your mother when you are barely weaned and being raised by another species. That's how hard it is to be a puppy.

Dogs don't understand spankings. To be effective in training a dog not to do something you should treat it the way it's mother would. A mother dog picks a puppy up by the scruff of the neck and gives it a little shake and puts it back down again.... if you do this effectively the puppy will learn not to do it anymore and you have the bonus of it being the way they learn from the mother. They will associate with what you're doing with their mother.

Spanking or raising a hand to a puppy or adult dog is wrong, the dog just mistrusts you. Puppies and Dogs need obedience training with firm words not a spanking.

No, "spanking" a puppy is not abuse, although hitting or slapping is! But results show that puppies learn and understand faster if you use stern words such as "No" or "Sit!" when walking a dog, tug on the leash and say "No" or "come" and soon you'll have a behaved, well mannered puppy!

I don't stand by doing that, I tihnk its cruel and mean... Its just a puppy, like what if you had a kid a real newborn baby and you spank it as hard as you spank the puppy. You would feel bad and feel like you did something wrong right? Well it's the same thing...your sad and mean

Yes, the puppy or grown up dog for that matter doesn't know what you are beating it for. It is abuse. Remain calm and assertive it really does help while training your animal. Remember they are animals. They depend on us for everything. Some people aren't cut out to be pet owners. It takes time, patience, and understanding, just like raising a family. Good luck

If its a baby, then yes its abuse.
I think a smack on the butt for a puppy/dog that has been trained is reasonable ...even then not a hard hit and never with your hand. A rolled up newpaper makes the loud noise enough to stop their bad behaviour without really hurting them.

Just like kids, depends on your definition of spanking. If you catch the dog doing wrong I think it is OK to spank as long as they know what you are spanking for.

There is a big difference between beating and spanking.

I dont recommend either.

What I do with my puppy is clap my hands loudly and say NO!
My puppy obeys whenever i do it. I read up on it in a puppy training book. It has worked effective with my puppy. My puppy tends to bite and chew on thing he isnt supposed to. I clap and as soon as i do he stops.

My pup is also not afraid of me.

:]

So Clap.

Just say no firmly or give it a 5 minute time out. There really is no reason to spank a dog.
