"Ye are temples of the living God"?

I'm sorry I don't have the verse off-hand, but could someone please clarify this statement if it was indeed made by St. Paul?

Someone told me that it means that God resides within us, but I don't know for sure.

Thanks Christians!!

2 Cor 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Hope it helps.

Paul writing to the church at Corinth
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body," (1 Cor. 6:19-20).
Just as God resided in the holy of the Holy's in the temple in the old testament for a time so does the Holy spirit reside in you upon excepting Christ as your savior. As you read Gods word and pray the holy spirit will grow within you. The more you surrender your will to self with his help the more evident he will become in your life and will show through.
So what you were told is correct.
Also God created your body through your parents so its kind of disrespectful not to be thankfull and take good care of it.

A Christian is anyone who has the Spirit of God living in him or her. If you have sincerely trusted Christ for your salvation and acknowledged him as Lord, then the Holy Spirit lives within you and you are a Christian. You can be assured that you have the Holy Spirit because Jesus promised that he would send him. Since you now believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son and that eternal life comes through him (1 John 5:5), you will begin to act as Christ directs (Romans 8:5; Galatians 5:22, 23); you will find help in your daily problems and in your praying (Romans 8:26, 27); you will be empowered to serve God and do his will (Acts 1:8; Romans 12:6ff); and you will become part of God’s plan to build up his church (Ephesians 4:12, 13).

1 Corinthians 3:16

Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

Yes, this means that God lives in you, specifically the holy spirit. You should take care of your body and keep it holy for the holy spirit, just like the Old Testament Jews kept their temples holy for the presence of God. This has another significance for Catholics, because Christ comes into their body when the receive the Eucharist.

Our body is a temple which holds our souls. The Holy Spirit is within us. That is why when you hear that little voice inside tell you what to do you should always listen because that is the Holy Spirit guiding you. Praise God!!

When we accept Jesus the Holy Spirit dwells in us. Something happens to our spirits and we become one with God. The Bible does indeed say that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are not to defile our bodies and minds with sin. As we read the Bible and pray to God we will discover Gods will for our lives. God wants us to be pure vessels so that He can fill us with His Love and Power!

The only verse I know of that says something close to that is I Corinthians 6:19...

1 Corinthians 6:19
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;

I think you may be referring to that verse

i appologize that i do not have the accurate verse number, but some where in Corinthians this verese goes roughly as follows: "My brothers do you not know that your body is a temple unto the Lord?" at my church the youth group has studied about how we are to live our lives giving our bodies only to God untill marrage. in other words we are not to drink, do drugs, or be sexually active in many ways untill marrage. hope this helps and i will pray for you

1 Corinthians 16:9, so yes, it was made by Paul, and I would say you are on the right track in interpretation. People also use it to say we should take care of our physical bodies and interpretations on it range from different extremes like not smoking and doing drugs, to eating well and not getting tattoos or piercings.
