We have a 7 year old golden retreiver and we are thinking of getting another puppy for company will this help? Any tips

I have the EXACT same dog! age and all. I also got another dog, an Irish setter, I didn't think it would work, especially since they were both males. You have to watch them constanlty, keep them on leashes and let them check each other out, let them get to know each other. The more time they spend together the more they will begin to like each other. REMEMBER, your Golden retr. is going to think another dog is intruding in his territory, and dont give all your attention to the new dog.

Bringing a new puppy/dog into your house to meet your Golden Retriever, could turn out to be a big mistake. Your home is his home, one he didn't have to share, and may not be willing to. Best thing is to have to dogs meet each other a neutral place, and go from there.
If they get along, then, walk them in the house at the same time.

i think it's fine!
i mean ur 7 year old golden retreiver might not be fine with it at first but i think it will work out and the golden retreiver will learn to live with it!

I went through this. My older dog at first was jealous but my family and I made sure we kept giving him the same amount of attention as before. When we give both dogs their treats we give them to him first, and then her (the newer dog) At first he wasnt too fond of it but its been a few years now and they get along. The odd time he'll growl at her but we go after him for it, he has to be nice to her. Both my dogs are social so it worked out. If your dogs antisocial, I wouldnt do it.

Sometimes older dogs will be very jealous when you bring in a new puppy. I would gradually introduce them and hope for the best.

Ok my advice for you is that when you get this other dog don't let the other one feel like that it's not loved because i have that problem and the dog hates the other one. So just have fun and love each one the same ok!!!!
