Mavis Beacon: 6 weeks if you do several hours a day, should yield 30ish wpm but then it gets easier and easier until it becomes like talking, it's well worth learning touch typing if you're under 90.

I took a typing class in high school that taught me the basic qwerty nonsense (named after the Q W E R T Y keys that are the first five on the keyboard), and then because I decided I was going to be a journalist I learned to type better and faster. When I ran into trouble was when I got a job in the real world (as NOT a journalist) I needed to know how to ten-key (the mini numbers keyboard on the right side of a standard keyboard) so I took a program for that. I learned pretty quickly.
I would say that once your brain and fingers got used to being positioned on the keyboard right and with some practice, you could be up to a decent typing speed within one to two weeks.
Good luck!

Honestly, I don't think you need a program. Although it can help, i can cost money. Depending on how old you are, the easier it is to learn. I learned when I was 6, from just practice practice practice. Constantly stay on the computer typing simple words trying not to look at the keyboard. When you start off look as you type, but as you get better, challenge yourself not to look. :-) Hope that helps.

Women are better at typing. This because are fingers are longer and lighter. Men tend to have bigger hand and smaller fingers for typing. That my experiences

i used mavis beacon, and i would spend about half an hour each day working on it. i was mainly trying to increase my speed, and it took me about 3 weeks to a month to improve it.
