If you are stopped by an officer he/she should tell you what method they used to measure your speed. A radar isnt good at getting a single vehicles speed out of a group of vehicles. However a lidar(lasar) can pin point a vehicle out of a large group and give an exact reading of the speed. Despite what some people think a radar can function while a cruiser is in motion and measure the speed of cars going the opposite direction. Lidar doesnt have this capability due to the fact you need to aim it with a retical or eye piece. Some cruiser also have emitters on the back deck and can measure speed of cars passing to the rear of them. bottom line is you arent gonna get any early warning if its laser or radar until its too late. Best bet is to stay in the flow of traffic or if alone and you just have to speed dont hit more then 10-12 over the limit. Most cops wont bother with drivers who are a few over. They are out to get the aggressive drivers or speeders 16mph or more over. Happy motoring.

You can see the red flash.
They sit off the side of the road sometimes partially hidden with the radar scope pointed toward the roadway. They are hoping to get the fastest vehicle going by. The radar gives them a readout on the screen and then they can print it to take to court.
Whoever crosses the beam is clocked. I always try to stay around other cars since it is harder for them to pinpoint which vehicle is over the speed limit. And I keep a car behind me.
Remember a cop can get a reading on you from behind, from the side and from the front. Too many think a cop can not get radar on you if they are passing you from the front.
Not true, and he can go to the next cross-over and come back to issue you the ticket. I get on the freeway and I see people flying even when the cop is on the other side of the freeway. Not smart.

By the time you know, its to late. Mmost current radars and all lasers are impossible to detect until they have already 'clocked' your speed. Some states outlaw detectors altogether. Even if they don't, when you are pulled over for speeding, if the officer sees a detector, your chances of getting out of the ticket disappear.

IF YOU SEE FLASHING RED/BLUE LIGHTS IN YOUR REAR VIEW MIRROR ITS TOO LATE TO WONDER IF IT WAS LASER OR RADAR.
MOST DETECTORS THESE DAYS WONT PICK UP THE MORE ADVANCED EQUIPMENT THE POLICE USE AND BY THE TIME YOU SEE THE OFFICER WHO IS CONDUCTING RADAR/LASER SPEEDING TRAP ITS TOO LATE TO SLOW DOWN COS THEY ALREADY GOT YOUR SPEED.
IT SUCKS BUT THAT'S LIFE!!!!! BUT MOST OFFICER WONT PULL YOU OVER IF YOU ARE DOING 5-8 MPH OVER THE LIMIT. SO DOING 70-75 IN A 65MPH ZONE THE CHANCES ARE YOUR NOT GONNA GET PULLED OVER UNLESS THE OFFICER IS REALLY BORED OR A DOWNRIGHT PRICK OF MISERY.

Ask them. Its no big secret, nor does it give them any advantages in court by not telling you.
