Prawns are just freshwater shrimp. Shrimp only live in saltwater. They taste pretty much the same.

Many think the difference between shrimp and prawns is the size with prawns just big shrimps.
I remember reading somewhere that that prawns are freshwater while shrimps live in saltwater or brakish water.
I also notice prawns have claws while shrimps do not, but this may just be species dependent.

Basically they're the same; prawns are big shrimp.

They are not the same but they can be used as the same when it comes to nearly all cooking.
