Where i work, we have a video rental department, and thats where i work. When i get bored i look up family members, friends, and people i know. One day, this was a while back, i looked him up to see if he rented here, and he does. He has $4 in late fees. Is it wrong to pay for his fees? He won't even be back to rent any movies for a couple of years, he's in the army.

I don't look into the people's accounts themselves...i just type in names...and see...we have to press a button to get into their accounts themselves...and i was nosey on his account thats all.

I would not pay his late fee for the following reason:

If a coworker or boss knows he is your bf and that he has a late fee, if they later look at the account and sees the late fee gone, they may think you did something unethical, because your bf is in the military and could not of paid it himself.

Do not assume that they didn't look at his account, because they could of checked it as easily as you did. You do not know.

Just do not worry about the late fee. Spend the money on postage to send him a nice care package instead.

Why not? If it were a lot of money and it became a habit for you to "clean up his messes" as they say, I would have a different answer. But 4 bucks one time? Sounds like a nice gesture.

Do you think he will be upset that you interfered? If he's in the army, I doubt he's thinking about $4 he owes and how it might get paid for.

I think the question that will come up more is whether or not you should be looking at people's rental records/histories etc. I am nosey and I would want to as well but it seems like an invasion of privacy.

I don't think it is wrong to pay the late fee, but I am a little concerned that you would look up other peoples memberships. Don't you think that is a breech of privacy.

No. Why would it be wrong? Unless it's part of some sort of cycle where he consistently relies on you to take of him in ways that make you feel taken advantage of, I don't see anything wrong with it. You're a nice girlfriend!

NOT WRONG!! NICE, but PLEASE tell your boss and make sure the boss knows it was paid from your money so you don't get in some kind of trouble in the future.

Then why bother paying it?

Although, if he is serving our country, it was nice of you to do that, and no, you shouldn't even mention it.
