I don't want to have to pay for a website and have to pay the sitter.

I'm in a new city and I know no one, that's the kind of parent that looks for a sitter online. I am a wonderful parent, actually overprotective if anything. It's a great source and they all have references. If you don't know what you’re talking about please don't answer. And don't start out saying "no offense" if you plan to offend.

Try www.phoneababysitter.com - it's free to join and check if there are babysitters registered in your area. I think you may have to pay a small fee for their contact info, but at least you won't pay to join only to find no one near you. Good luck!

I use babysitters.com and you can see all of the information about any sitter before paying the subscription fee. I think this is a great way of finding a childcare provider. You get a pool of candidates to interview, which allowed me to find two great sitters that I still use today.
