I really can't tell. And I don't know if I like him. But he is overall pretty shy, and has never had a girlfriend, not because no one likes him but because he doesn't really show intrest in them. He is always looking at me, and giving me compliments, he is a flirt but not just with me other people also, so it gets confusing. He says that if he had to go out with someone in the class it would be me but he says only if he had to. What do you think?

Maybe he's worried that you'll reject him, so he says "if he HAD to", that way he doesn't sound interested, even though he is. It seems odd that he's shy AND flirtatious with a lot of girls! Dating can be stressful, especially for the guy, because there's pressure on him to do things for the girl, so maybe he is a little nervous and scared to actually go out with someone because he doesn't know what to do and doesn't want that responsibility.
Or, maybe he's an in-the-closet homosexual and he doesn't want people to know, so he hangs out with the girls but refuses to go out with them.
Who knows?
