Learn how to sing?

I want to learn how to sing. I can't say I am terrible but I am not the best. is there any free ways to learn by yourself besides practicing. I practice alot I just really want to be able to sing decntly not be a star. Can someone plz help me??

First of all, if you truly are interested in learning how to sing you need to make an investment. There are no free ways to learn properly.

Remember, singing is an Art. It takes dedication, time, patience, study and most importantly a well-trained voice teacher.

You can't hear yourself the way in which others hear you which is why you can't learn on your own. You can't trust your ears. You need to trust someone else's ears and what you feel in your body in order to know if you are singing well.

I have listened to many would be singers that thought they sung well during an audition only to find out later that they were not called back.

During Auditions, I listen for several things in a singer:
Placement and Ease of vocal production
Appoggia (Breath control and support)
Beauty of Tone
Musicality and Interpretation (Does the singer understand what they are singing about)
Dynamics
Projection (does the voice carry...not just loud but soft)
Legato lines
Passagio (control between the vocal registers)

probably the best way to do it would be to have a few lessons with a singing teacher - its not free, but provided they are good at what they do you are gauranteed to get some good tips and advice. while learning yourself may be a cheaper option, without professional guidance you do run the risk of using your vocal chords incorrectly, which could cause permanent damage (such as nodules, or other nasty things)

well , listen to music.What high notes and low notes do they hit?And try to make your voice h-i-i-i-gh and l-o-o-o-wwww at the same time.
