I have never put anything on my hair before I straighten it and my hair and it looks healthy and nice after doing this for like 5 years. You don't need to put anything on.

the salon will be the best option they can tell you what is best for your hair, go for something like bed head , or you can get cheaper ones in boots just have a look around, try to get a light weight one

a glossing cream while its wet, then blow dry it straight down. then after it's dry put a silicone based shine serum or a protecting spray on it before you flat iron it
