For the last few weeks, when I try to get comfortable at night---no matter what position I lay in, what pillow I use (or not use), what firmness/softness I set the bed (we have a sleep number bed), etc.... I cannot get my neck comfortable!!!!! It feels as if my neck muscles are strained all the time and I don't know why!

When I try to sleep with no pillow at all or something rolled up under my neck, the veins in my head pulse heavily and my head feels like it's about to explode, so I am constantly trying to change positions (being up half the night and waking my husband up). I've also tried those memory foam pillows with the little neck ridge with no luck. I don't know if this has anything to do with it---but I've been trying to fight off getting a cold for a little while (some slightly swollen glands), and every once and awhile, my husband massages my neck.

I am 28 years old, the correct weight, and fairly healthy. Is something wrong? Any suggestions? Thanks!

It's also starting to hurt sometimes during the day when I'm sitting or standing.

You might benefit from a visit to the chiropractor. An experienced massage therapist could also help. Sounds like you have some stiff muscles. Try alternating heat and cool packs. Sometimes stretching helps. A warm/hot shower before bed may also help. This problem may also resolve when the cold symptoms go away. Hope this helps.

I get that feeling alot after I am sitting on the computer for a long time, and it does not go away. Usually what helps me is to massage the muscles around my neck. Try to stand up completely straight and completely relax your shoulders. Try stretching the muslces in your neck by putting your head towards your chest, then the side, then the other side. Also keep good posture while sitting for long periods of time because it is probably tension in your muscles from being contracted constantly that causes it.

You might need to get a massage to help work out the neck. I was feeling like that and even getting headaches. I got a massage and the therapist said the neck and shoulders muscles were pretty tight. Try taking a hot bath before bed as well to relax. Exercises might help as well.

Could be blood pressure or maybe sinus trouble. I know it's in your neck and sinus issues don't really show up there, but I've had them bad enough that it makes my whole head and neck area hurt.

i think you have a blood pressure problem. this sounds similar to a problem my mother had, and that's what it was. please get it checked out.
