You really haven't given enough info such as what kind of dog you have, short or long hair, etc. Brushing your dog is always a good thing. It can be bonding if you make it a positive experience. If there is a grooming shop near you, ask them for suggestions.

Long haired dogs often require much more time and care for maintaining a healthy coat. Grooming techniques will be different depending on the breed of dog and the type of hair it has. Some dogs have coarse hair, some have fine hair, and there are many points in between. Some dogs have undercoats and some don't. I sugges that you do some research on the specific breed, or call a local groomer for suggestions and ideas.

No there is no grooming specialties you must stick too, But i do know some tips that will come in handy when grooming a long haired animal.

-Since you have a long hair dog, Tend to brush down his fur, not up, brushing up can cause knots!

-If you want your dog to have soft silky fur, use a non-scented shampoo, he may smell good, but scented shampoos take away natural oils a dog needs in his fur.

-Try and find a well-known brand of dog shampoo, it will be hard but shampoos that you find at stores that are less then 5 dollars, they may sometimes cause your dog to shed and cause coarse skin on the dogs body.

-Always brush before and after grooming for a clean, non shaggy look for your dog!

because of lots of hair the most important thing is daily combing and brushing to help get rid of shedding and loose hair, it makes the coat shinier. if he is a inside dog the floor and furniture will become a mess. out side dog are nicer to pet and you won't have to get all that hair all over you.
