Anyone else out there been in a similar situation? I have perfect insurance now to cover the damage, but im fighting a moral dillema of what to do next. Please spare me the hate, im not looking for anyone to tell me im a bad person for even thinking of claiming this because i probably wont do it. And yes yes, im sure there are ppl out there who just cant wait to tell me im stupid for not having good insurance to begin with, well...when your insurance runs out and you recive no notice in the mail...and you work 40+ hours a week, battle severe depression, take care of two disabled parents, live on your own, pay your own bills...well...these things slip away unnoticed sometimes, and it hurts alot when people cant wait to point fingers and call people names and tell you its your responisbilty and your dumb...anyway...spare me all that...i already know the mistake i made...what i dont know is if anyone has ever filed a claim after buying insurance and been in the clear.

Forget it! The insurance company will be able to tell that the damage is old. Even a day or two makes a difference and the adjusters know exactly what to look for.

Hint: What you are alluding to is insurance fraud. That's a felony regardless of the dollar value of the claim. Do you want to risk up to 5 years in prison for a few hundred $$$?

Well cry me a damn river. What would you do if the appraiser inspected your vehicle and determined the damage did NOT happen on the loss date you lied about? Answer: you would be shopping for insurance again -- high risk insurance this time at about double the rate you pay now. I work in claims and believe me, we know when people are lying to us. We can't always prove it and plenty of scum-bags get away with fraud every day. That's the real reason rates are sky-high. Stick with your decision to keep your integrity intact. That is worth far, far more than your automobile.
Best of luck -- sounds like you already have a full plate.

Lots of people have done it, and lots of people have been charged. They end up with charges, no claim, and fines. It is called insurance fraud. There is a reason they don't sell you home insurance while your home is burning. There is a reason they don't sell you medical insurance while you are in the ambulance after after a heart attack. The money has to be in the pool to pay claims. Your insurance starts the minute it is bound, and cannot be expected to pay for a claim for something that happened before. Sorry, but that is the way it is. Take it from me, I am an insurance broker.

I would not report it. MInor comprehensive damage is definitely not worth risking being charged with insurance fraud and being fined or thrown in jail. Insurance companies are on the look out for fraud. Dont do it man.

I have never filed a claim like this, but you would be committing a felony if you do. You might get away with it, but is it worth it if you dont?
