I have naturally blondish hair. (Not white blond, but more of a dirty blond.) I've been coloring it darker for years. So when people see old pictures of me from Highschool, before they didn't know me, they always wonder why my Mom let me bleach my hair like that at such a young age. ha. I just like the darker color better.

Just a tip:

I have never gone blond to brunette, I am a natural brunette. My hair is naturally dark brown but I recently decided to try going black. I bought a store bought dye, which I have been doing for the past 10 years when I dye my hair different shades of brown. I have always used Feria, so I used the same brand when I dyed it black. After about a month the black still felt odd to me so I wanted to go back to a brown. I went to several beauty salons and they ALL told me the same thing: they could not take out the color since I had used Feria, which is a metallic hair dye. They said if they did try to remove the color so as to allow them to dye it back to brown, my hair would either melt or break off. Obviously you can't put brown on black so they would need to take out the color before dying it a lighter shade.

Not wanting to go bald, and not settling for what they were telling me (which was that I had to wait and let all the Feria grow out), I went to Sally's and found a color remover that was safe to use on metallic dyes. I used two boxes of that, removed the color, and then dyed my hair back to brown.

Moral of the story: If you want to go blond to brunette, DO NOT use metallic dyes because when you decide to go lighter, you will have a hard time getting the color removed from your hair and most salons simply will not do it if you've used a metallic dye.

Good luck!

YES! Brunette is the new blond. Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Richie, Cameron Diaz, Carmen Electra, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson wears brunette wigs sometimes, are all brunettes now. It's hot and it's catching on like wild fire. If you are a natural blond, add some low lights to your hair or just go brunette. It'll add a smoldering, mysterious, chocolate-ly essence to your personality.

I was born with sun blonde hair. In july I decided to try something different with my hair. I colored my hair the lightest color of brown I could find, I got a darker color everytime until I found the color that I liked the most. Today I have medium brown hair and my friends tell me I look better as a brunette than a blonde.
