do people get so angry and vindictive when someone questions their beliefs? It's obvious that no two people believe the same thing, there are over 6 billion religions in the world (this is true because we all define reality and god differently). This makes me wonder if anger is an acitve part of all religious and spiritual pursuits. If this is true then what is the function of anger that it should bring us closer to the one truth that connects us all? Maybe we are all a beautiful dance of the darkness and light in a place where there can be no right or wrong.

BECAUSE

6 billion religions huh ??

There is only One God and one Word.

Forget religion.

Christ is the path of salvation.
Christ is the truth of God's Word.
Christ is the life eternal.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.

Christ is the tree of life.

Gen 3:22 And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

God's Word is not a religion but a reality.

it depends on your religion how you answer this question, whether you have one or not, almost everything revolves around what religion your in because it guards your lifestyle and choices you make. As much as people don't realize it, every choice you make everyday are either against or with your religion, almost everything revolves around it, and because of my religion i am answering this as, "Yes, there is a right and a wrong, and you will all find that out in due time." And it is possible to believe the same thing, maybe just not follow it in the same way. Anger is a part of religious beliefs, but it shouldn't be. Its because of this generation and to many people choose to make anything against their religion offend them. One sentence that you ask really brings a spark, "If this is true then what is the function of anger that it should bring us closer to the truth that connects us all?" It is true that in due time this anger will bring us all to understandings of right and wrong and what has happened and what has not. These questions really spark many peoples imagination of what could be true, if you really want to know about why things offend one another i would suggest for you to check out different churches and religions, it might open an eye or two!

Bless you. I love this question and agree. I think anger is involved because of the passion, but we confuse anger and passion. Passion comes from God (the universe or whatever higher power you have for the LORD). Anger is human nature, not Godly. TEMPERANCE could help us to get along better. Yahoo! answers shows us the window into how much spiritual and religious hatred there is in the world. We have no tolerance for people who are different. I do, but many people DO NOT.
Thank you, I am a beautiful dance. I love it!

I personally do not get angry when someone questions my beliefs. I do get angry when someone willingly engages in what should be a civil debate, and then gets offended at my views, refuses to admit when a point has been made, and feels that it is their place to determine what is true and what is bunk. I also get angry that my faith is constantly being stripped of freedom, oh sure you can say tha Christians have just as much freedom, but the truth is we can't even mention the name of Christ in public without our microphone being cut off and any recordings edited. And yet certain other belief systems such as the theory of evolution, which in it's entirety is a completely offensive contradiction to our faith that has been perpetuated by deceit and concealment of information, not to mention scientific bias, is taught to our nations youth as the only answer to lifes great mystery.

do you mean question as in "why would you ever want to be a ______?" or question as in "as a _________, why don't you celebrate birthdays". The first type of question is kind of an insult and the second is inquisitive.

But I agree with you... why get so angry in either case. It seems like all the religions want their followers to talk about what they believe in to others. No matter how the question comes, it does present an opportunity.

That anger thing sure is a wast of a lot of positive energy.

People feel fear when one pionts out the holes in their belief. This fear is behind the anger that you see. They fear that they may be wrong about what they most believe to right. They fear what would happen to their life if their religion, one of it's key building blocks, was to tumble down apoun them. Something they have learned, defended, and loved for many years to be proved nonsense would be humiliating snd devastating to their way of life. Where would they turn, another religion? What if the same thing happened? It is this that creates the fear and outrage that you see or expierence.

It depends on the level of politeness of the asker. Polite inquisitive questions dont and wont stir anger in the hearts of the believers. I know - I'm a Muslim.

God knows best.

Perhaps they become angry because they have adopted the "sheep mentality" and your question can't be answered because they don't know; they only know how to follow.

Anger is a protection people adopt (like fear and flight) to protect themselves. It lets you know when the line is crossed and where your comfort level ends.

I would think that folks would share information openly knowing no one will agree with them all of the time. We can't make everyone happy all of the time, but we can be respectful of each others point of view.

Great Question!

Yes darkness and light dance, right and wrong do not exist if balanced. Anger comes from fear of the unknown, fear of the unknown comes from lack of knowledge.
