I only worked there this year and I do not know anyone else who has worked there the previous year to ask them for the information. Would a tax preparer business have that information? I need to know how to file my taxes quick.

The easiest way to find your employer's EIN number is to call the payroll department and ask them. It is not secret information, just considered private. Employees who need the number can be told over the phone. You just need to identify yourself as an employee, and talk to someone who has quick access to it.

Maybe an email to the company's payroll department or human resources department would receive a reply. It depends on your company and it's policy.

Tax preparation companies keep a database of EIN numbers, but it is not likely they would give out the information.

Keep in mind, if you file your tax return without your W-2's, processing of your return will be greatly delayed. In most cases, you should wait to file until you can include printed copies of your W-2's with your tax forms. If you don't have your W-2's by late February, the IRS will begin accepting tax returns with substitute W-2's at that time.

It may be possible to go online and print your W-2's from your company's website. More large companies are making this available. This could be quicker than waiting for your W-2's to come in the mail. Go to the "employee resources" section of your company's website, and see if you can register and access an account with your information.

If your employer is publicly traded (that is, they have stock that is sold on an exchange), they are required to file certain information with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Usually, you can find this number on the company's form 10-K or 10-Q on the first page. Go to www.sec.gov and click on search for company filings.

If you state keeps such records, the secretary of the state website might have information on all companies registered to do business in your state. The EIN should be with that information.

If you worked the same place last year, look at your W2 from last year.
