my friends and i are going to start working out 3 times a week using the elliptical machines, maybe treadmills, and some weights. i am 5'6" 130-133 lbs and incredibly insecure about my body. i want to tighten up my mid-section, legs(mainly thighs), and my butt...will this do anything?? of course this will also be paired with healthy eating and allowing one night a week to eat what we want for dinner. what do you think?

also i was thinking about purchasing a dietary supplement...any suggestions? or just NO?

thank you

Elliptical is GREAT! There is nothing like cardio to get the weight off you should also try a Spin class if you're looking to get rid of the thighs and tighten the butt. Make sure you change up your routine every 3 to 4 weeks with classes or a stability ball is so much better for your abs. The entire workout is based from your core. You shouldn't dedicate a night to pigging out. Just be cautious through the week You can have cake, ice cream its the portion!

What you plan to do sounds good, start out slow though so you don't strain your muscles. This will definetely help you tone up those areas and lose some weight. It's good that your allowing yourself one day to eat what you want just don't go overboard but that is perfectly fine. Don't get those dietary supplements, I am 18 and have tried many and to be honest I never saw results that were extreme like they say. You can drink green tea that is really good for you, drink it before you work out and after. Good luck :)

You might want to do weights twice a week, and some cardio for the rest.

I figure you want to lose 10 pounds or so, but you should have your body composition analyzed first, so that you know whether you need to lose fat or just tone up your muscle. If you build muscle you will burn more fat, or keep your weight more easily.

Depending on how much fat you have to lose, you might want to have more cardio (more than few days a week). If you just want to tone up you can do pilates.

As for supplements, proteins, creatine and glutamine do work in helping you with post-workout pain and muscle building. Other two underrated "supplements" are water and low fat dairy (some even think dairy is "bad"!!!!!): you need water and calcium to lose fat.....

Good luck!

I think this will all help especially the weights if you lift the correct amount with the correct amount of reps however i have seen lots of people work like dogs and go home and eat something like icecream which is more calories than they just spent an hour burning off.

It sounds like you are at a healthy weight already but if you want to tone up I think working out and choosing healthier foods is the way to go. I don't think you need to be too drastic, just follow a healthy lifestyle.

Your fitness and nutrition plan sounds good. Remember not to binge on your "free dinner". Don't take a dietary supplement. Those are scams. They work, because people are more motivated to work out and eat healthy while theyre taking them, not because the pill actually helps you lose weight.

as long as the one night a week does counter act all the hard work you did all week and if you mean diet pills they do not work. your plan should work.
