I am from Spain and before reading the answers in here i thought that the mother of Carrie in Stephen King´s book was just a fiction character, since i read this yahoo site i see that in the U.S there are many "Carrie´s mothers" around...
I know that there are a lot of nice people, i am not judging all americans but i dont understand how is it possible that a country so full of christians allows death penalty or how can it be possible that buying a pistol is as easy as buying an ice cream and even easier than buying cigarretes...
In Spain there are some christian fanatics but nothing compared to many people i read in here...they are the extreme of the extreme...they are to religion what fascism to politics

There is no way of knowing whether the people on Answers is actually an accurate cross section of the american society, also considering that it is international.

I am beginning to believe, however, that there are very few mature adults on this site with an IQ nearing 110.

In other words, most people on Answers display an inordinate amount of immaturity (maybe due to age), a lack of mental profundity and an extreme lack of education.

Note that I spend a lot of time here, so I am calling myself, immature, poorly educated and not very intelligent, too.

I never realised there were so many who didn't use their brains (condemning people to hell, refusing to believe in evolution, laughing at the absurdities of other religions while refusing to think critically about their own, etc.)

However, I realise (hope) most americans aren't like this (there are also many answers which have impressed me), and I understand that the R&S section provides a massively biased sample of the population.

Before Y!A, I naively believed that racism and intolerance were heading toward extinction. Now, however, it's obvious that America, and the human race in general, still have a long way to go before we reach any semblance of unity. People still carry racist views and uninformed opinions - they're just afraid to openly admit it, so the only way they can express their views is to strangers anonymously on the internet.

More of a confirmation than a perspective change.

I did not realize how far Americans had gone from God. I didn't realize that large numbers of Americans have lost the fear of God and belief in the Ten Commandments.I did not realize the intensity of the disrespect and hatred for the things of God and the people who believe in Him. It has been a 'wake up' call for me.

Why is this in the religious section?

And to answer the question - no - lots of different people are in America and other countries. We all think differently and my opinion overall of any particular country and it's people hasn't been changed based on my limited experience with Y!A. I'd have to view a much larger sample of any given population to make any real judgments.

As an outsider, it is frightening that they condemn the Islamic extremists, and then spout off Creationism as if it was a fact, they cannot see they are turning into a nation of religious extremists themselves!
And NO I am not Muslim.
