well NYC has almost 40,000. The state has another 10 or so. I'd have to say around a 100,000 for the whole state, maybe more. Thats not counting Peace Officers like corrections, constables, fire marshals, etc..

I'm betting all the answers so far are low. I'm also betting short of contacting EVERY police and sheriff's department in the state, there is no way to get an accurate answer.
