With age he might however Jack's are naturally a very active breed.

You need to increase his active time jacks require at least two hours of running time a day. Take him to the dog park and just let him go.

This breed is usually a terrible apartment dog as they require an extremely large amount of attention and can get very destructive if bored. You need to keep him entertained and not leave him alone for long periods of time. It might help to get a second dog (a little less active breed) They would wear each other out and help with the activity level when you were not at home.

Oh girl, I hate to say this, but probably not. My Jack Russell is almost 11 years old and he has not calmed down much at all! The best thing you can do is make sure he gets plenty of exercise and that he does not get bored. I have found if I don't exercise my Jack much, he invents things to be rowdy about.

They usually do when they grow up but still are pretty rowdy. I have an 8 month old Jack Russell and yep I know how rowdy and rambunctious they are. It seems like they never tire out no matter how hard you try to tire them out. I know someone who has a 4yr old Jack and she is even pretty energetic. So, yes they will calm down but unfortunately it takes time.

Larry's right - if not a little harsh..

Jack Russells are working dogs and bred to be "rowdy".. he'll be like that for the rest of his life.. he may mellow with age - but you can't train it out of him its WHO HE IS.

check the breed standard:

"The (Jack Russell) terrier must present a lively, active and alert appearance. It should impress with its fearless and happy disposition. It should be remembered that the Jack Russell is a working terrier and should retain these instincts. Nervousness, cowardice or over-aggressiveness should be discouraged and it should always appear confident."

Jack Russell terriors are the dogs that were bred for the British fox hunt. They are extremely active and even more aggressive than they are active. They should never be around smaller animals or children, nor should they be in a city environment. They very much need space to run, and space as in a rural area. In the wrong environment, they never calm down.

Jack Russells are not calm dogs. We have two. You should find that your dog will calm down more once it is desexed and is about 2 years old. They are great little pooches. :)

Jack Russells are typically very active dogs that need alot of play and attention. They are however very very smart dogs. You can try having it fixed. This sometimes helps and sometimes the dog will be less active with maturity.
