It isn't a bathroom if there is no bath in it and it isn't a restroom if you don't rest in it. Why not call it a toilet if you go shitt in it? What do you think language is for?

In Canada, we call it a washroom and in England its called a loo

Buddy, Universally the word "toilet" is just rude... like why will we want to think of shitt if a person only wants to freshen their make up or something?

In Canada, they say washroom. I think we're just too uncomfortable with bodily functions in our cultures to say what it's really for. But everybody knows anyway.

(By the way, for us Americans, the toilet is the actual fixture, the white porcelain bowl. So that word's already taken. And, to give us some credit, some bathrooms actually do have facilities for bathing.)

We do call it a toilet. You poop in a toilet. The toilet is in a bathroom or restroom or men's/ladies' room. By your logic, we should call the Living Room a Couch. That's just silly!

We do call a toilet by its name. We just don't get personal about what activities we are persueing in the bathroom. Ask a homeless person if a tub is required for a bath.

In American English at least, the toilet is the actual contraption a person relieves themselves on; the toilet thus does not refer to the whole room.

a rest room is the porcelain fixture you sit down upon, the restroom is the place you hit upon a rest room in public places. Sink/basins are additionally recent in "restrooms", in case you're saying you ought to use the lavatory it ought to signify you should wash your palms. in any different case, TMI.

if it is a private room, I call it a powder room (if there is no tub/shower) or a bathroom. If it a public room, I call it the mens room.
