In order to keep the $ the police agency which seized the $ must file a civil lawsuit called "forfeiture" against anyone who may claim an interest/ownership of the $. If the police can convince a Judge that the $ was used in or derived from illegal activities ( like drug dealing ) then they get to keep it all and spend it any way they choose. If they can't show an illegal connection then the $ go to whomever can prove they are the legitimate owner of the $. Each State has it's own rules and procedures which must be followed.

The court system the State and the Federal government monitors the money and it is divided up between the court system, state, and local agencies. Assett forfeiture.
Under federal law, no law enforcement agency can use proceeds derived from seizer of monies or properties of a drug bust for funding the salaries of employees.
Money is used for equipment, units, vest, etc. Property is sold off at auction and the money is used the same way. Again all money and property that is seized is strictly monitored and enforced.

I'm not sure about the money but I have heard from a few sources that the drugs go down the toilet unless it is weed, in which case, sometimes the police officers take that home. I have heard that when police officers only find a small amount of weed that it's no big deal and they use it for personal use, ha ha.

The money, by law, is kept by the Police Department, to be used for anti-drug measures. This can range fro education to equipment. It also saves the taxpayers of that community money.

IT GOES TO A SEIZURE FUND ALONG WITH ANYTHING ELSE OF VALUE SEIZED (HOUSES, CARS, BOATS AND SO ON). THESE ITEMS ARE SOLD AND THE MONEY IS PUT INTO FEDERAL GRANT PLANS FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TO USE FOR FUTURE DRUG INVESTIGATIONS AND THE D.A.R.E. PROGRAM AND SO ON. AS FAR AS PEOPLE THINK THE POLICE GET IT IN THEIR SALARY THIS IS ONLY TRUE IF THE OFFICER(S) IS WORKING ON A DRUG CASE WHILE USING THE FUNDS OBTAINED FROM SAID GRANTS.

I don't know if every state is the same , but here in Georgia the money goes to the state and a large majority of it stays with the dept. that confiscated it to use for equipment such as vehicles and other things. Here where I live they have stickers on patrol cars that read, "purchased with siezed drug funds"

It goes into the fed revenue. Part of the money will be used to reward the people who gave tips for the drug bust.
