Is AAA available in your area? Try them, that is who I use. I pay monthly, and there is an early termination option.

It's easy to find, There are many companies out there that will want your business. Yes, it usually is a 6 month term or 12 month term policy. You can cancel your insurance policy any time, but some companies depending on which one you go with, have an early termination fee. It's usually $30-50. To cancel early, you would need a statement in writing.

The easiest solution is to take out an insurer's own direct debit facility when you take out their policy. If you pay monthly there may be some interest but some offer interest free direct debits. If you cancel it is very rare they will chase you as it isn't worth the admin costs. You can also take out 6 month policies but as not all insurers offer them they can work out just as expensive as 12 months and if you don't sell the car for 7 months it is a pain!

Most auto policies are 6 months long. If you cancel before the 6 months is up, it depends on the state you live in how much money you get back. Some states you get all your money back that hasn't been used (pro-rate) and some states allow insurance companies to keep a portion for their trouble (short rate). You can ask your insurance agt what your state is.

Very easy. You should be able to avoid termination fees. Visit an Independant Insurance Agent (www.iiaa.org) in your area. An independant agent represents several companies and will sell you what is best for you, unbiased. They are usually paid on commission by the insurance company, so it is no additional cost to you.

Call Nationwide or Progressive. You can terminate any time with no fees or interests. You pay monthly and if you are with Nationwide and have them automatically take it out of your checking every month, it is even cheaper.

Most companies give you a discount for paying for the whole year. Try here though, they'll find you a good rate.
