what is the best way to acheive curly hair without getting a perm or using curling irons etc
My G/F wants to shampoo and set my hair.

Setting hair means to put some kind of setting lotion (gel, mousse, or whatever will make the hair hold the curl) in the hair and then put curlers of some sort (rag, foam, plastic, velcro, etc). Then you will let the hair dry and it will set it into curls (if you have easy to curl hair!)

No you don't.
To set hair means to condition it and roll it hence the word set to set the rollers.
Leave your hair alone!
