I've heard of some describing their spirits as a ball of light.

Since there is no such thing as a soul, it looks like nothing. The soul was invented by man thousands of years ago. It is about time that we learned that this was myth and meant to explain the essence of life. I asked a Born Again Christian if a dog or cat have a soul. No Way! Only humans have souls. Give me a reasonable explanation of why this is so. The explanation was gobbly-****.

Just look into the mirror and you will see a soul! As long as we are living and breathing the Bible says that we are living soul's(Genesis2:7 ; 1Corinthians14:45 ;Joshuah11:11; Acts27:37) The Bible also calls Animals souls(Numbers31:28 ; Revelation16:3 ; Leviticus24:18)

Picture yourself. What you have done in your lifetime that you can remember and be honest. The Soul has no appearance resembling you, but it contains everything about you. It will continue to save all the events of your life. Your behavior, your honesty, your disposition twords others, your belief in the Lord, Jesus Christ, your faithfulness, your complete lifestyle . So your Soul contains everything about you. Then when you die, it will be your Soul that God will be able to Judge you on, in regards to your being saved.

Look in the Mirror............there you go!
Your Soul is you. There is nothing that "lives on" as that would make the resurrection, which the Bible calls an "elementary teaching" needless.............
Jesus Christ spoke about the condition of the dead. He did so with regard to Lazarus, a man whom he knew well and who had died. Jesus told his disciples: “Lazarus our friend has gone to rest.” The disciples thought that Jesus meant that Lazarus was resting in sleep, recovering from an illness. They were wrong. Jesus explained: “Lazarus has died.” (John 11:11-14) Notice that Jesus compared death to rest and sleep. Lazarus was neither in heaven nor in a burning hell. He was not meeting angels or ancestors. Lazarus was not being reborn as another human. He was at rest in death, as though in a deep sleep without dreams. Other scriptures also compare death to sleep. For example, when the disciple Stephen was stoned to death, the Bible says that he “fell asleep.” (Acts 7:60) Similarly, the apostle Paul wrote about some in his day who had “fallen asleep” in death.—1 Corinthians 15:6.

Souls are spiritual in nature; and according to classical philosophy, spirits are non-corporeal, i.e., do not have a physical body. Therefore, souls do not look like anything, because appearance is a component of the corporeal body.

our spirit is /looks like the sun
but it as a magnet has fields of affect
those affects are an occilation that forms the shape of our soul,
that which we last were being
each of the higher l;evels of heaven have less of that they were ,and are rebirthing into the god hape that animated your /mine /all life from within to live as the flesh we now are being
its really just distortion of electric fields
just as a tv makes immage
that allows us to assume any form
the round spirit is in the head od the sperm as well as in the ovum
thier interactions formed/joined into the unique magnetic field we all are.

I'd say for your average person, the soul and astral self more or less resembles an idealized version of their physical self.
of course this can be fuzzy, as over different lives you can look quite different, and even cross genders over various lifetimes...
and some people are quite different astrally though.
