Yes, in the citation portion, he has to list how you were were detected, and show the readings. Many states will vary in their laws concerning this question.

No, although he probably did. Most cops can pace you. AKA drive next to you, behind you etc and if there doing 90, and your right with them, thats it. Its called pacing. Most depts also use VASCAR. Its stands for visual speed something or other. Basicly, a cop is trained to estimate speed to within 5 MPH simply by watching you fly by. They do this all day everyday. They know what 90 is and what 55 is. They become quite good at it and the courts will accept that as testimony that you were going a certain speed. As far as proving it...I'm not sure what you mean. If you mean to you personally on the side of the road. No. He'll do that in court. They are pros. They do this thousands of times and they will win, everytime (esp Highway guys) They have a whole speech on how they tested the unit with a tuning fork, tested it befor hand blah, blah, blah. You lose. Laser is even worse (did you get hit with laser or radar.BIG difference) radar hits a bunch of cars. Laser means he targeted you alone (think smart bomb guidance) and you are pretty much dead. Its hard to beat a highway cop. They are pros at testifying, they know the judges etc. Unfortunately, the burden is on you to somehow discredit the officer. He is going to have notes on you and present his case, the same way everytime, and win. Your best bet is to get there esrly, talk with the DA,prosecuter etc and try and plead it down. Or hope he doesn't show.

He has to prove it in court. However, I can tell you unequivocally that he does not have to show you his radar. In court his testimony and the maintenance records for the radar system are the required proof.

Don't let anyone fool you into believing that you can ask the officer to see his radar display and he has to show you. This is an urban legend/myth/BS/whatever you like to call it. I was first radar certified almost 15 years ago and that hasn't changed yet.

I'm not sure what your question is.

Does a police officer have to prove TO YOU that you were speeding when he issues a ticket? No.

Does a police officer have to use radar to prove you were speeding? No.

If you deny speeding, does a police officer have to prove that you were? Yes, but some means or other.

BTW, you can be speeding in California even if you are not exceeding the posted limit, since any speed which is not reasonable and proper for the conditions is illegal, even if the posted limit is higher.
