Yes, but there are things you can do to reduce your risk of injury. Helmet, reflective clothing, flags, mirrors, a bell, keeping your wits about you etc..

Hi. I've been riding in all through the city of Chicago for the past 10 years. I feel safer here in the city than I do in either the suburbs or the country because people are used to seeing bicyclists riding on the streets throughout the city. Too, cities usually always keep reminding cars to share the road with us. Finally, cars usually are forced to drive slower in the city.

All in all, the city is a very safe place to ride!

Have fun. It's better than either driving or taking public transportation!!

Which city ? which part ?
in the event of car vs bike > > car always wins .
But a car recently killed bicyclist on a country road when they bent to grab something sliding off the dash & swerved . . .
So actually just dangerous to ride where cars are.

As it was said if you're not sure and not in harmony with your bike - then you might be in trouble. Second - if you're afraid of cars - you have bigger chance to hit the kerb or get knocked off. So my advice is - if you're scared and not to familiar with city extreme free style - better stay away or ride somewhere, where it's quite.

No, it is not really dangerous to ride a bike in the city. Read all the available information, and go on a course, otherwise there might be problems. HTH LOL

If you ride predictably and purposefully, and give cars respect and stay out of their way and anticipate situations, and those situation's related situations, and ride with a plan A, B, C mentality...you should be fine...
it is not difficult - it is a thrilling and safe game

if you are an experienced rider no, if your a noob yes. an expericence biker knows to look for cars coming down ally ways and they ride on the street as if they were cars, this may seem dumb but it is the better thing to do

Riding a bike is much more better than a car...saves the air..
