The absolute best is a product called Curls Up from FX Special Effects. You can get it at any Wal-Mart or Walgreens, CVS, etc.

There is something called scrunching if you haven't heard of it
it would require gel that gets crunchy or you can just buy a scrunch spray both work well. You put the gel all over your hair and start at the bottom of your hair and gather your hair and form a fist clenching your hair then push your hair all the way up to your head and hold the hair there for about 15-20 seconds
and let go it should look kinda wavy but still wet looking.

I got natural Wavy hair so this SHOULD work 4 you too.
#1 DONT use hair spray if your trying to make curls .This will make your hair look sooo frizzy and give you tons of dead ends.
#2 Just use gel.
#3 After you wet your hair leave it in a towel for like 10 mins just to damp dry it .
#4 take your blowdryer and put your head up side down and shake it and scrunch it up ; not using gel yet ( make sure your hair is still damp )
#5 now , grab the gel , and you have to basically load it on there cuz you have straight hair. Just play with it in your hair , scrunching and shaking around. make sure its all sparate though not clumped together.
#6 Flip your headup and then take the blow dryr to it again you can do it either way , head down again or up , more volume if you keep your head down.
Just lightly blowdry it so the gell starts to set in.
If this dosent work then you might want a perm lol.

What really works well for me is to to braid my hair while it is still wet, using some setting lotion or mousse. What is great about this method is the size of the braid dictates the size of the waves. french braiding (i.e. cornrows) give a really pretty result. The bigger the braid, the bigger the waves. I do it, then put a stocking cap or scarf on overnight. You can also sit under the dryer for a quick result. It works great. If you don't wash your hair daily, you can always repeat this at night again, go to bed, and wake up with pretty waves the next day! Good luck!

I also have straight think hair and what I do is I sleep in these curlers. They're soft and flexible and I think they're called pillow curlers because you're able to sleep in them and they don't bother you that much. You're able to get in anywhere like eckerd or rite-aid. Then in the morning I take them out and finger-comb my hair and scrunch with gel while using a hairdryer to make it dry faster and hold better. Finally you just style with your fingers, and you have wavy wet looking hair.
Or you can always use a curling iron.

My hair is pin straight and I've never been able to try it, but a friend of mine who has straight hair too put gel in her hair after the shower then put it in a bun, then reapplied the gel then reapplied the bun and when it dried her hair looked really pretty.

Try got2b kinky- put it in your wet hair and scrunch it. You can find it at CVS, and it's about 5.99 a can. I think it's aerosol- it's a fluffy mousse. It will last for 2-3 months, depending on how long your hair is, and how much you use.
