does having a physical connection develop a chance to go out again with that person? or does being physical make it even more difficult for the relationship to go anywhere?

The physical part probably doesn't improve or degrade a relationship but it WILL make the two of you more intertwined and connected. That's good if you get along well together but it's TERRIBLE if you don't get along well together. Keep in mind, most new relationships don't develop and exist over the long term.

If you are thinking of being physical on a first date you are crazy. When you do that early on, there's a good chance that you will not be respected.
