isn't that strange? the personality of the god in the old testament and the god of the new are very different.
for example, god orders his people to commit genocide on many occasions, rape, human sacrifice, etc. Most Christians like to ignore this little fact.
quite different from the god of the new, isn't it? Jesus was a lot more peaceful. Of course, there are those who don't believe that jesus is god, if that's the case.....then they worship two different beings....wouldn't that make them polytheists?

"Jesus Christ, the sme yesterday, today and forever." is what the scriptures say.
If He chastens someone for disobedience, does that mean that He's angry? I'm not sure where you are coming from. As I read the Old Testament, I see God having tremendous grace and patience with His people, and chastening comes only as a last resort. Prophet after prophet was sent to Israel to warn them of their idolotrous practices, all to no avail.
Hosea 11 is a wonderful example of a very human-like Father dealing with His rebellious children. His frustration is evident even in the scriptures.
Jesus finds His chosen people much the same in the New Testament. Rebellious, and all the rest. Perhaps His grace overflows, but His anger is only delayed. JEsus never let the bad attitude of the Jews get in the way of what He knew needed to be accomplished on Calvary.

Jesus is God also but he and the Father are two different people at the same time. God does not change and is still very jealous and he still hates sin, but he can forgive people easily now because of Jesus's sacrifice. He was always loving too.

In the old testament no one could approach God except priests because they were sinful and unworthy, but when Jesus came he took away all sins, made a new covenant and made a way to God for anyone to approach him.
There is no difference in philosophy.

God is no different in the one or the other. He appears harsh in the OT because atonement has not been made and therefore He is much more unapproacable but His nature is exactly the same. Hebrews 1 tells us that Jesus exactly represents the nature of God. Verse 3 "And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature"
Also in the OT in Jeremiah 9:23 Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; 24 but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the LORD who exercises lovingkindness, justice and righteousness on earth; for I delight in these things," declares the LORD." Se here, the same God as the NT.

ok you are looking a little too deeply, lol.
Jesus isn't God, he is Lord. God is his father.
If you want to take the bible metaphorically for a moment, look at it as the story of God's adolescence and growth.
First he was new, had a lot to do, and learn
Became an adolescent, acted out, did things he shouldn't have and had a lot of anger.
Then he grew up (new testament) became an adult, had a child of his own. Regretted his prior decisions, tried to make amends and apologies. His son was his complete opposite (or tried to be, like we all try to be better then mom and dad). Now God is more of The Grandfather type, he tries to take it easy, let us learn from our mistakes. He "retired" and his son has taken over. To pick up where he left off. His son has an advantage, he has all of his fathers qualities and those of his mother (who is human) and makes mistakes. So he has more compassion. He's been there, done that.

God punished his people in the Old Testament because they were rebellious towards him, and would not follow his ways. Time after time his people would have faith in God, then lose that faith and worship something else, be punished, and repeat the process over and over again. Just because he punished them, does not mean he does not love them.
Same goes for the New Testament.

Jesus said, that he didn't come to condemn the world, but the world through Him might be saved.
Jesus said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth, I came not to send peace, but a sword.
For I am come to get a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law, and a man's fores shall be they of his own household. He that loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that takes not his cross, and follows after me, is not worthy of me. He that finds his life shall lose it, and he that loses his life for My sake shall find it." Matthew 10:34-39
This board of Yahoo Answers proves Jesus is right. There are believers and non-believers in every family. Majority of Jesus' disciples were martyred. Christians killed in Crusades. Many Christians are being martyred throughout the world today just for the name of Jesus.
The Wrath of God is coming and all authority in Heaven and earth has been given to Jesus by God the Father to judge. While here on earth, Jesus said He didn't come to judge, but if He did judge His judgment would be true. Jesus warned about hell and He didn't want any to perish, but Jesus will judge the earth and the earth's wicked people and they will be punished by Him.
If you would read the Bible, you could not make this statement.

I belive that there is a father, son and holy ghost.
I belive that in the old testament man was stiffneckeck. (stubborn)
The jewish nation was mengling in with other religions and sacrificing their children to false Gods. To test man, Abraham was instructed to sacrifice his son to the true God. When Abraham tried he was stopped for the true God does not need Human sacrifice. but being the true God he sacrificed his son to man so that man can be forgiven for their sins past, present and future. For man was stiffnecked and was doomed. After the sacrifice Jesus took all the sins of man so God changed his relationship with man and Jesus became our spoke person to God for we say our prayers thru his name.

No. God is a loving God in both NT, and OT. Just look up the words Mercy,
Loving Kindness, Gracious. You'll get a whole list of OT References.
