I am an attorney and have never heard the term "unsafe conviction." The time frame you describe is fairly common in criminal cases, and does not pose any problem on its face. You probably waived your speedy trial rights at some point during your case (the right can be waived simply by consenting to have a date set outside the speedy trial period). All the same, it would be a good idea to have your case reviewed by an attorney to see if statutory time limits have been met.

Conviction must be supported with direct evidence and not merely presumptions. If the judgment is erroneous, file an appeal citing valid grounds for its repeal.
