I know of one in my area that has promised his congregation that he was building a church for them for at least the past 17 years!! Although he has collected tons and tons of money over the years for the "building fund", to date he has not built a church. It was so bad that at one point he asked for donations of $500 a piece for panes of glass that would be part of the windows in a sanctuary that had not been built. Many people bought those "panes" thinking that their family name or something would go there. I wonder what they think now? (I think he convinced the congregation that escrow had closed on a piece of property.) Right now, he holds "church" in a former office building just off of a major freeway. (He's had several properties in "escrow" over the years, and always requires more money to close.) He is a very good speaker and always convinced people that God told him to go after various properties which apparently never materialized. I know this because my mother attended his church and estimates that over the years she might have given in the neighborhood of $40K. In my opinion, God did not tell him anything, or he misread Him. Quite a few of his former members now attend my church instead.

I know what you are talking about. My very favorite was the Times Square Church in New York. They claimed to be 'non-denominational' but then told us that if we didn't take communion because of personal reasons or if we didn't love Jesus that that's be okay because God would forgive us. I didn't take communion out of respect for my Catholic friends who would not take it - and the fact that I just didn't like being told 'if I didn't love Jesus'. It was the most hypocritical, evil service I have ever been to. Pity I could not tell the 'minister' what I really thought. Sad thing was, many in my group enjoyed it.

Well, there are probably alot more than you would care to know.
If you looked at what the Bible says and what some of 'organized religion' teaches..........it just might freak you out!
"And in answer Jesus said to them: “Look out that nobody misleads YOU; 5 for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many" -Matthew 24:4-5
...........okay, some do confess Jesus is the Christ....some say he is actually God too though............
"And many false prophets will arise and mislead many; 12 and because of the increasing of lawlessness the love of the greater number will cool off. 13 But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved. 14 And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." -Matthew 24:11-14
..........lawlessness within this 'religious' entity.....Ah, "Once saved Always Saved" gets a hit here....doesn't it?.......... Have to preach the Good News of the Kingdom....truthfully, you don't hear much about God's Kingdom unless it comes from...........well, you figure it out........
"15 “Be on the watch for the false prophets that come to YOU in sheep’s covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves. 16 By their fruits YOU will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles, do they? 17 Likewise every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces worthless fruit; 18 a good tree cannot bear worthless fruit, neither can a rotten tree produce fine fruit. 19 Every tree not producing fine fruit gets cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 Really, then, by their fruits YOU will recognize those [men]." -Matthew 7:15-20
...........it says a rotten tree can be recognized as well as a good tree..........."by their fruits"............what kind of lives to certain religions lead.......proofs in the pudding........but you can't have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!.....er, sorry............
"However, there also came to be false prophets among the people, as there will also be false teachers among YOU. These very ones will quietly bring in destructive sects and will disown even the owner that bought them, bringing speedy destruction upon themselves." - 2 Peter 2:21
This was a warning in the 1st century..........the Apostasy from Jesus teaching was in full bloom by the 3rd century and was hurried up by the death of the faithful Apostles which 'acted as a restraint'.......time to fit this Scripture neatly in here:
"And so now YOU know the thing that acts as a restraint, with a view to his being revealed in his own due time. 7 True, the mystery of this lawlessness is already at work; but only till he who is right now acting as a restraint gets to be out of the way.
[[ this happened when the Apostles taking the lead in the congregations...died]]
Then, indeed, the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will do away with by the spirit of his mouth and bring to nothing by the manifestation of his presence. 9 But the lawless one’s presence is according to the operation of Satan with every powerful work and lying signs and portents
[[ Faith Healers?? "Lying Signs" Yeah, you can give a big YES to this one]]
and with every unrighteous deception for those who are perishing, as a retribution because they did not accept the love of the truth that they might be saved.
>>>So that is why God lets an operation of error go to them, that they may get to believing the lie, in order that they all may be judged because they did not believe the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness."
..............Very interesting last half of that Scripture...........So, what are their motives for "religion"? Well, one thing is for sure...the individuals "did not accept the love of the truth" Remember John 17:17 okay? "Your Word Is Truth".............I really don't think 'homosexual churches' can make this cut and I am being very generous..........and general as you can see
"but every inspired expression that does not confess Jesus does not originate with God. Furthermore, this is the antichrist’s [inspired expression] which YOU have heard was coming, and now it is already in the world. " -1 John 4:3
...........Okay, how many are there that "does NOT confess Jesus"? Look, I know it is a big deck of cards......but that was over half the deck that we have to drop, isn't it? Pretty plain isnt' it?
"So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth" -Revelation 12:9
Ah, the all inclusive "misleading the entire inhabited earth"!!!!
Okay, now...at this point you have to understand that "the Good News" is being preached or Jesus said the ROCKS would cry out. So, we can be sure that ........although the above Scritpure says "entire inhabited earth" we are talking in comparison to here.
I have heard NO rocks of yet!
Now, instead of getting everyone all upset and listing a bunch of organizations...........Everyone gets to do their own homework!
It's called being Tactful.
Great Question also..........

"But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping."

It is easy to tell the difference between false prophets and true ones. Jesus Christ gave one method of discerning which are true and which are false. He said: "Ye shall know them by their fruits."
False prophets include people like Sabbatai Zevi or any of the weird cultists who commit mass suicide. They are obviously fake because their fruits are bad.
The only true prophets since the time of Jesus are Muhammad, the Bab and Baha'u'llah. These Prophets are true because they produced good fruits.

Start with TV evangelists. All they do is say "send money". Every church I know of, requests tithing which is 10% of your gross income. They're all over the place and I think they are the worst kind of sinners.

I am a Christian and there are plenty of false prophets around. The Bible tells us this will happen. The Mormon Church is full of them and they are all over the television. Benny whats his name is one. He's as phony as a three dollar bill. There are plenty around...
