I bought my dress, and I am in the process of losing weight, I know this sounds ambitious, but I want to know how many sizes a wedding gown can be altered down at most, so that I don't end up with needing a new dress!

My friend bought a 10 at a very steep discount and she was a size 0 when she got married. You couldn't tell the dress had been altered!
I bought a size 20 and lost 35 pounds. When I went for my first fitting, I could hold 4 inches bunched up in the back of my dress. It looked beautiful once it was altered.
You'll be fine. Good luck!

It depends on the dress. If it has beading and embroidery, the style may be altered too much to keep the intended style of the dress. If it is plain or with an all over repetitive pattern, then you are fine. Good luck with your diet and don't overdo it.

most wedding gowns can be taken down 2 or 3 sizes but keep in mind that any wedding gown with a lot of detail, beading, lace etc will be harder to take in because it will mess with the design to much.

If you can, return the dress and get a new one closer to the wedding, so it will fit you just right. You won't have to spend money on getting a dress altered.

It's pretty much unlimited so long as you use a bridal seamstress (like at the bridal shop).

Also, it's the same price to take the material in one inch as it is to take it in 8 inches. But remember, the dress CANNOT be let back out again.
