AT machines display a message that let's you know to push the PC-off button to shut down your machine. ATX machines have a "soft off". If you didn't know that, you probably couldn't answer this question. Before you answer, let us try to clarify any assumptions. Windows 2000 is installed on an AT machine, 550mHz processor, 512mb SDRAM, 16mb nVidia TNT Riva. I replaced the AT MOBO for an ATX MOBO, installed 768mb PC2100, uninstalled drivers, moved HDD over to new MOBO and powered up. Windows started and loaded WinDefault drivers (that's what I call them). Then I installed the MOBO's manufacturer drivers from disk, and went to Microsoft Update and updated my drivers with the latest Win2K revision from Microsoft. When I shutdown, I still get the old AT PC message "It is now safe to turn off your computer." prompt instead of shutting down like a "normal" ATX machine.

you need to enable APM (advanced power management). i am doing this by memory, do not currentertly have access to a win 2000 system. go to control panel, double click on power options icon look for APM and enable it. hope this helps.

any time you are installing a new motherboard it is best to do a clean install of windows so everything will run as it is supposed to. More than likely, windows is running fine but it still has some of the power management settings set for an at power supply-board. If it's that big of a deal for you, just re-install (it seems like you know enough to know how to do so). If not, just bite the bullet and shut your pc down like before.

This happened to me, but at the time all I could do was to reformat the Harddrive. Hope you find a better solution. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
