The body remains, but the soul returns to the Light.

We go in the grave, and we are in the state of inactivity, waiting for the first or second resurection (Revelation 20:5.6), depending on our fidelity to God.

In Genesis 2:7 we read: "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul."

Therefore, living soul is made of breath and dust. This simple:

Dust of the ground + Breath of God = Living soul

Soul does not exists after death because it is disintegrated according to reversed formula of creation:

Living soul - breath of God = Dust of ground

Spirit of a man is refereed to be an inner life of man, not a ghost, like most of people think.

For example, Pharaoh's spirit was troubled (Genesis 41:8) or
The spirit of Jacob revived (Genesis 45:27).

Jesus likened death to sleep, when he talked about death of Lazarus (John 11). Also, final verse about this topic:

Ecclesiastes 9:5.6.10
For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any [thing] that is done under the sun....
Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do [it] with thy might; for [there is] no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.

To be absent from this body is to be with Jesus and God. If you hear the words, "I know you not." your in a heap of trouble kiddo.

The guy above says something about you can stop worrying about this life if you realize there is no other one is silly. I am a Christian and I certainly don't worry about this life. I know where I am going when I die. You are the one that had best worry.

Depends on your religion and what you believe.

The Christians believe that they go to Heaven and anyone who is a bad person or who isn't Christian burns in Hell. The Jews believe we all go to Limbo to stay until the Messiah arrives. The Atheists believe that's it...that's the end. Wiccans believe we go to the Summerland to await reincarnation. The Buddhists and Hindus both believe we are reincarnated. My religion, Asatru, believes that we all go to Helheim to rest in a realm where we are all taken care of by the Goddess of Death and have feasts at Her hall, unless we die in battle in which case we are taken by Valkryries to the halls of Valhalla or Folkvang...or if we drown we are claimed by the ocean Goddess Ran and taken to Her hall where we are taken care of and feast and party all the time.

So it depends.

There is reason to believe that you will go everywhere eventually. Consciousness will vanish and the body (which is the medium of the life) will eventually dissipate throughout all of existence.

Ground. Roughly 2 meters down.

Sounds depressing, but once you realise there aren't any second chances, you start LIVING in this world and stop worrying about the next one.

We go to another dimension of existence without a body.
