Yes certain types of deficiencies can shorten your life span. As to how much it depends on what you are deficient in and why. Most can be corrected by diet and or medications. A simple blood test and urine test can tell you.

I agree with "dave". An oxygen defiency will kill you sooner rather than later. Any deficiency can affect overall health and while a specific defiency may not directly shorten your lifespan, it can have an indirect affect. Next time, please be more specific -- "deficiency" by itself is too broad a word. And that "captain" person's answer was just plain stupid.
